Hello world! We’re Waterplanet, a band here in the beautiful city of Baltimore, MD.

Waterplanet is the work of imagistic songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Millie Landrum and James Hesser. Veterans of the Baltimore Music Scene, Waterplanet has toured the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Southeast. With driving melodies and harmonies, they share vocals and alternate on acoustic guitar, percussion, and other instruments. Their playfully introspective songs blur the lines between pop, rock, and psych-folk – frequently haunting, yet strangely familiar. 

Following their releases Ghost-Hypnotic and Songs for Holiday Living I & II, Waterplanet’s most recent EP Never Far was released in fall 2020. The group of songs for our new project is a response to the intensity of the last five years: politics, the pandemic, health issues, motivation, and generalized stress. While those subjects may sound heavy, the songs are anything but! We’re excited to bring them to life,

And this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward getting them professionally produced and recorded.

This campaign is raising funds for our professionally recorded album with Ryan Gallagher in Boston, MA. Ryan is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, we’re digging into our original material, and conjuring arrangements to bring the songs to life.

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Under Over,” and you can check it out below!

While we’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Under Over” on our own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of our project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. We’ll start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album, hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements, and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much the success of this project could mean for us.

A well-recorded album would open a lot of doors for our band in terms of future opportunities, including securing larger venues and acquiring a wider listenership. We've made high quality recordings in the past, but it's been a few years since we’ve been in a studio other than our own “Luxurious Basement”. It’s important for us to shake things up now and then to bring out our best. 

All artists want their work to be the best it can be, and that's why we’re working with Ryan and the team at Plaid Dog to craft an EP that sounds the way we've always envisioned our music should sound. For those reasons and more, this project is critical to our future growth as a band. We can't wait to share these amazing new songs with our fans old and new!
