Hello world! We are Adrien and Lizbet Palmer of The Last City, a band in the beautiful city of Dallas, Texas.

We’ve been playing together for 10 years. Along the way, we’ve gotten married, moved to Japan, moved to Dallas, bought a house (as creatives and freelancers this is no easy feat!), and got a dog named Tyler (the best girl!). 

During our time in Japan, we started The Last City and played hundreds of acoustic shows, mixing in originals with special arrangements of covers that were crowd favorites. We produced lots of at-home EPs and singles and moved to Dallas in 2015, where we continued making music. In 2018, we leveled up and released our first self-titled, studio produced EP.  Since that release, we’ve been working hard on new material to challenge and grow The Last City. We can’t wait to share this next chapter of our music with you, but to make this all a reality, we need your help.

We've got a collection of great songs ready to record -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating our next professionally produced studio album, Willfully Human.

This campaign is raising funds for our professionally recorded album with Bryan Fennelly in Boston, MA. Bryan is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, we’re digging into our original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song remotely, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Purple Haze” and you can check it out below!

While we were able to fund the initial recording process for “Purple Haze" on our own, to create an album of songs with full production and professional quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of our project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. We’ll start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album, hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements, and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture, and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change our lives.

A good friend of ours said, "Music makes you feel a feeling, words make you think a thought, but a song makes you feel a thought." These songs have been particularly special since they are part of a bigger Willfully Human project. It has been a dream since The Last City started to create a full multimedia album, with a chance to incorporate Lizbet’s photography and graphic design and Adrien’s writing. Recording these songs means realizing that dream and taking a huge step forward.

As we plan to dig deeper into our musical careers, a project like this goes a long way towards creating opportunities. While we are proud of everything we’ve done so far, building and expanding our catalog means larger venues, wider listenership, and being able to do more shows with our full band. There’s a lot of potential ahead for The Last City, and Willfully Human will be an enormous catalyst towards making that reality. 

We’ve had the privilege of sharing our music with hundreds of friends all over the world, and we are deeply grateful for all of the support along the way. Now, we are excited to create and share what comes next.
