Hello world! We are The Horizon Problem, a band here in the beautiful city of New York, New York.

Early in 2020, The Horizon Problem was coming off of the release of two new tracks and an “electric” show at New York’s storied Bowery Electric, but like countless other bands, our momentum came to a screeching halt with the closings of all music venues in March of 2020. It’s been a trying time for everyone, including musicians, but we’ve been trying to make the best of a poor situation by utilizing the magic of modern technology. Battling time zone differences and poor internet connections, we have managed to put together a collection of new music that we plan to record for our next EP. We couldn’t be more excited to share these new tracks with you, but to do that, we will need your help.

We've got a collection of great songs ready to record -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating a professionally produced studio EP.

This campaign is raising funds for our professionally recorded album with Cairo Marques-Neto in Boston, MA. Mike is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, we’re digging into our original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “(I am the) Ill Intent,” and you can check it out below!

While we were able to fund the recording process for "(I am the) Ill Intent" on our own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of the project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. We’ll start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album, hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements, and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change our lives.

Performing live music is a passion of every member of this band. One of the last weeks before quarantine, we played an absolutely incredible show in New York City and were putting together plans for a small tour. Obviously the situation has changed, but our passion for creating new music for our friends and fans has not.

This EP is the culmination of months of emails, zoom calls, and demo sharing and is a real testament to the hard work and passion each band member has for creating music. Health standards permitting, we plan to organize a small scale tour to support the release. This has been a lifelong dream for all of us, and your assistance can go a long way to bringing it to fruition.
