Overview

Hello world! We are The Afternooners, and we are an Alternative Rock band here in the beautiful city of Chattanooga, TN!

In 2016, Bryce Cronan and Blake Harmon played a small acoustic set at their friend's party, consequently starting what would become The Afternooners. After years of developing their sound and writing their own songs, they decided to recruit Ben Stephens, Brett Tallent, and Bryan Martin III. This started a whole new era of The Afternooners, which features more experimentation and pulls from multiple genres like Jazz, Reggae, Pop, and Funk. We don’t like to limit ourselves on what we are able to play and frequently make up and improvise new tunes on the spot at our high energy rock concerts.  

At this point in our journey, the music we have already released isn't representative of the current state of our sound. For the past year, we've been writing new music constantly and are very eager for you to hear what we have to offer. In order for us to bring this new music into the world, we need your help!

We've got a collection of great songs ready to record, and this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating our first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for our professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson, a Boston-based producer and engineer with 15+ years of experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, we are digging into our original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called " Materialism,” and you can check it out below!

While we were able to fund the recording process for "Materialism" on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio time costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Well work with Mike to craft the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs, arrangements, and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change our lives.

Each of us feel that there is something magical and mysterious about music, even before we knew how to play a single note. We would hear our favorite songs and feel what the artist felt. We would contemplate what certain lyrics meant or wonder how they could even create something from nothing. There’s just something amazing about opening yourself up and sharing yourself with another human. To us, playing our instruments is the ultimate form of expression, and it provides a place where we can feel pure joy and love. As a band, we have so much fun together, and we want to provide an experience that everyone can take a little meaning and truth from.

Our families and close friends have all been supportive of our talents throughout our lives. Without the love and support we have received so far, we wouldn't have made it this far. We can't wait to show old fans and new what we are capable of!

We are hoping to broaden our horizons with this new album. A high-quality studio record would help give us more opportunities to reach a wider audience. We feel as if our high energy and eccentric shows have not been properly expressed on music platforms. This campaign will help us achieve our goals by bringing our unique songs to life.
