Hello world! My name is Shelby Roode and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful town of Ashaway, RI.

I’ve loved music since long before I could even remember. My family tells me that I most likely sang before I even talked, watching shows like Barney and Dora trying to sing along. While it was such an important part of my life growing up, I kept that part of me locked behind doors. I chose to pursue my middle and high school years as an athlete rather than focus on my real love for music. I was far to anxious to let the world know exactly what was true to my heart and ultimately let that get the best of me. I wrote, sang, and performed behind the four walls of my bedroom, wondering if this could ever be a reality for me. Now, I have decided to put myself out there because what do I truly have to lose?

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson  in Boston, MA. Mike is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together,  and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “hotel room,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "hotel room” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts.  and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

The little girl in me is so unbelievably thankful for this opportunity to live out her singer-songwriter dream. Writing in private has taught me that you never know what could happen until you put yourself out there. I never thought anyone would care what I did with my music but all that matters is that I enjoy what I am doing and write from the heart. Music allows me to put my feelings into words that hopefully someone else out there can relate to. That’s the goal. Be someone that can tell a story through catchy music. 

Collaborating and creating something so incredible has been such a privilege. I have never pushed myself harder nor put myself in a position to work with so many other talented individuals that have brought the best artist out in me. I am so proud of the work we created together and forever thankful to them for bringing my sound to life. 

While I’ve never made a music project of this caliber before, I have gotten my feet wet in all aspects of what it takes to make a single, an album, artwork, designing, vidoe production, you name it. With your support, I will channel that consistent work and experience into something new and beautiful that we have made together.
