Hey guys, I’m Scout! I make music in Brooklyn.

I’ve been playing and writing music since I was a little kid. Somewhere there’s probably a picture of a guitar my friend and I tried to make with a cereal box and rubber bands when we were like, 8, before the indie rock of the northwest sunk it’s melancholic little teeth into me and turned me into whatever gremlin I am today. Despite the personal catharsis I get from playing songs into voice memos to tell my friends how much I love them, ultimately I want people to hear my songs, even when I’m not there. I want the things I care about to exist outside of me, in spite of my occasional cynicism. I like these songs a lot, I think they’re good songs, and I’m excited for you to think things about them too. 

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Bryan Fennelly in Boston, MA. Bryan is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Bryan and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “islands,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "islands" on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Bryan and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

I want music to be something that I can sustain through my life; it would feel like a disservice to all it’s done for me to not. I am eternally grateful to the people that have participated in it with me, whether or not they were grateful for it (family members dealing with me discovering distortion, high school friends in general, etc.). As private as I can be about it sometimes, I want my music to have the blessings of the people I care about, and I don’t say that just because some of the songs are about them. The access, personnel, and resources that have been provided to me are frankly wild. I didn’t think I get this. Now that it has been offered, I see a chance to create and sustain something, with people I know and with people I don’t know yet. To be able to share with everybody exactly what I mean feels both unprecedented and overdue: I didn’t know any of this would happen, and I also have a very late debt to the people that have listened to me sing wrong and discover distortion. I’m grateful for everything and everyone.
