Hello world! My name is Scott Ryan and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the  town of Freedom, ME.

In Middle School my music teacher told me to "give it up” music was not for me. Ironically since my mid-teens music and songwriting have been some of the most purposeful things in my life. Straight out of high school I joined a rock and roll band and toured Northern Ontario. Over the years I have performed up and down the East Coast of the United States and Canada.

There is a magic to writing a song. It is creating something out of nothing. From just a little spark of an idea or a few lines and a melody can emerge a complete work that was not even a glimmer the day before.

Whether I am performing them live or just writing them for myself song writing has always centered me. 

After 2020 was hard. I lost the spark. I had not performed out in years and had a dozen songs started unfinished.

I busied myself with other work and life went on.

One day plaid dog recording reached out to me after they had heard some of my songs online.

Their legitimate interest in my work and desire to help me move it further helped to reignite the spark I had lost. I started finishing songs long left undone. Started taking gigs instead of passing them up. And that brings us to today. With the help of close friends and family we have raised the funds for this first plaid dog recorded song.

I have never been good at asking for help, but I need your help now. Working with this studio and producer is a great opportunity with the potential for great music.

I am back in the musical saddle. Please help me stay there and finish this project with plaid dog recording. 

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson in Boston, MA. Mike is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Mike and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Come in Closer,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Come in Closer” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Mike and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

Music can be an incredibly powerful thing.Means something different to all of us. It can help us see the world differently.It can open our eyes and change our hearts. None of us move through this life entirely alone.So much of my musical career has been as a solo artist, but musicians friends and loved ones have affected me greatly in my journey.The opportunity to work with this studio, producer and funding management Is another step in my musical progression through life. The collaboration is a new thing for me.I embrace it as a learning experience and recognize it comes with unknown opportunities.
