Hello world! My name is Sarene and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful hamlet of Rocky Point NY, on Long Island.

I have been making music and performing my entire life. I started writing songs as a kid and I never really stopped. I’ve performed in many genres… cantorial, classical, Rock, R&B, country, musical theatre and more, but I’ve always thought of myself as a singer-songwriter. I’m not really folk or country, though I am heavily influenced by both. These days it seems like anyone that can’t be pigeon-holed is referred to as an Americana artist. So that’s what I usually say when people ask. I’m also a Cantor. I have been blessed to live a life full of music, and now I want to share my songs with you.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Ryan Gallagher in Boston, MA. Ryan is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Ryan and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Carolina,” and you can check it out above!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "God Save Us” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Ryan and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It’s difficult to articulate how much this project means to me.

Music has always been prayer for me, long before I was literally singing prayers. Music has the incredible ability to heal and connect, to reach and inspire people in magical ways. I am, for the first time in my life, feeling brave enough to offer up my songs and hopefully be a part of creating that magic.

I have been so fortunate to have a  family that supported my aspirations and exposed me to so much great music when I was young. I also have incredible musician friends that have encouraged me, and pushed me to fully tap my potential and my skills. My high school friends cheered me on when I was just beginning to write and perform. My college friends listened to me rehearse at all hours and came to my performances. Music is about connection and I hope this project inspires many new opportunities to make more music, new friends, and fans.

While I’ve never made a music project of this caliber before, I feel like I have been preparing for it most of my life. All the writing and practicing, the performing and teaching, have brought me to this moment, as a person and an artist and I finally feel ready. With your support I will continue to channel that work, experience and preparation into a project we can all be proud of.
