Hello world! My name is Omar Camps-Kamrin and I'm a singer-songwriter and media composer here in the beautiful city of New York

I’ve been making music my whole life: growing up spending hours at the piano, performing in musicals, and now having the joy and privilege of composing music for media and musical theater, music directing, and sharing my love of music through teaching. Over the past few years I have also been building up a collection of songs, not written for any specific project, but written simply as ways of expressing and reflecting on my feelings on the big project – life! The only puzzle piece left in the making of this music is to finally share it, so here we are!

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson  in Boston, MA. Mike is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Mike and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Go Out of My Way” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Go Out Of My Way” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Mike and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

Growing up between New York City and Cairo, Egypt, music was one of the few constants in my life. It was an exciting, wide open place I could go to no matter what continent I was on, and a safe space that I could count on. I aspire to cultivate that space for myself and others both in the music I make, and in how I make it. My personal songwriting has remained that—personal, and I recently realized it was about time I created room for others to join me in this place by sharing this music! 

These songs are extremely close to my heart. I’m always encouraging my students to be brave and put themselves out there, and I'm trying to take my own advice — I hope this EP will set an inspiring example for them, and for anyone out there who might need it! 

I have the privilege of making music in all aspects of my professional life, whether it’s scoring film, writing musicals, or teaching. This is the one part of my musical life I have yet to share — and getting to share this music, produced at this caliber, will be a huge personal and professional milestone for me.

 There is so much music that I turn to every day for support, and if just one person finds any joy or resonance in my music, it will all be worthwhile.
