Hello world! My name is Natalie Capes, and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful state of North Carolina.

I’ve been writing and making music for as long as I can remember, and in early high school I decided that I wanted creating music to work its way into my adult life in some form or passion. I’ve released 2 home-brewed EPs to date, but now I’m embarking on a new journey with Plaid Dog Studios in Boston, MA, to create a professional grade, full length studio album. If funded, I will get the opportunity to turn the collection of songs I’ve been crafting into a fully fleshed out project that both reflects my unique creative vision, as well as the personal journeys I’ve been on over the last few years. I am more than grateful for the opportunity to share these things with the world. 

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson in Boston, MA. Mike is a Boston-based producer and engineer with 15+ years of experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Mike and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Person,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Person" on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Mike and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

For most of my life, music has been a powerful tool that has helped me change, grow, and develop as a person. And as much as I love the home-grown, DIY art industry, one thing I’ve learned from being in the professional music world is that making music is kind of hard to do by yourself. It’s why I’m so incredibly excited for the opportunity to work alongside Mike and the other folks at Plaid Dog! I sincerely look forward to their skills being reflected in this project, as well as getting to learn various industry skills from them. 

That said, this project is also deeply personal for me. As I said earlier, these songs are a culmination of what it’s been like to enter my adult years, and all of the wild experiences that has brought into my life. I want this project ultimately to be accessible to all people who choose to listen to it, but I also want to be able to honestly share my story at the same time. One of the reasons working with Plaid Dog is so significant to me for this project is because their support, along with the support of friends, family and fans like you, will allow me to create a project that expands beyond the music, and develop a world that really embodies who I am as an artist. That, and, it allows me to flex more of my creative muscles outside of just musicianship.
