Overview

Hello world! We’re Mockingbirds at Moonlight, a band born and raised here, in the beautiful state of Maine.

We met in school, and life took us our separate ways, but we both always continued playing and studying music. We reconnected years later by chance through a mutual friend, when Laurel showed me some of the songs she had written. 

We ended up jamming the next week, and it was magic from there. We added percussion, bass lines and harmonies to fill out the songs I had been writing, and eventually added 2 more members to the band! Having Jenny and Nina in the band was a really fun time! I loved all the intricate harmonies we were able to perform together, and all the different instrumentations! It was hard scheduling practices, but it was worth it!

Then when we had 3 members we recorded our debut album Wanderer with Chris Dembrowski. That was a cool learning experience!  As a band we have played a list of respected local venues, such as Portland House OF Music, One Longfellow SQ, Crows Nest - Hawks and Reed, and Cole Farms. Botan and Laurel have been a duo since then and have been working hard on the new album. 

Since then, Laurel has written a modern re-telling of the classic Cinderella. You may have noticed the title of the album is Modern Day Fairytales…. YES the songs on the album are from the play which we are so excited for the world to see someday! The first step is this professionally produced album of the songs. We can then shoot music videos for them and share the story with the world!

I am so looking forward to finishing our album with Plaid Dog and Ryan. I remember listening to his first pitch using our Debut cut of HWGA and thinking “Wow that’s another band playing our song!”

We've got a collection of great songs ready to record -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating our first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for our professionally recorded album with Ryan Gallagher in Boston, MA. Ryan is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, we’re digging into our original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life.

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Here we go Again,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Here we go Again” on our own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of our project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. We’ll start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album, hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements, and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change our lives.

A well-recorded album would open a lot of doors for our group in terms of future opportunities, namely in securing larger venues and acquiring a wider listenership. We've made demo quality recordings in the past, but the world deserves only the best we can give: a professionally recorded, high-quality album that sounds the way we've always envisioned our music should sound. For those reasons and more, this project is critical to our future growth as a band. You have the power to help us make this project a reality!

Our families and friends have all been incredibly nurturing of our talents. Without that early encouragement this band might not even exist. We can't wait to show fans old and new what we can do!
