Overview

Hello world! My name is Martin Scott Fredrick and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful city of St Albans, Vermont.

I’ve always been a musician - as far back as I can remember. From playing guitar in my parents basement along to my favorite music by ear, to jazz band, symphonic band, marching band, and countless other ensembles, playing music was always there.  I had the chance to play drums so many times with my friends in a blues band in Chicago, and even hit the road for a month with a good friend. Needless to say, I’ve been surrounded by music. I had always tried to write songs, but nothing seemed to come to fruition - until recently. And now, I’m so excited to share these songs with you.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Carter Sanders  in Boston, MA. Carter is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together,  and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Always Been His Kid,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Drunk Girl” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts.  and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

Music has always emotionally connected me to those around me., and once I began writing songs, I started to see how the music I was writing and performing could continue to do that. 

I’ve never wanted to be a musician alone - in fact, one of my favorite things to do is collaborate with like-minded individuals on the songs I’m creating because when you work with others, songs begin to shape, mold, and come to life in ways I could never imagine.  One of my closest friends, Ethan Sawyer, has been amazing with this. He has taken my demos that I’ve sent him over the years, and turned these songs into fresh outpourings. I really don’t know where I’d be without him. I have a large network of friends and musicians, but in this project, I’m excited to meet even more!

I have only recently begun writing, recording, and releasing songs.  It’s been a liberating, scary, and fun activity all in one. When you support me in this project, I’ll have the chance to make even more music and do even more things with the music in my mind!
