Hello world! My name is Mackenzie Miller, and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful city of Seattle, WA.

Music has always been a huge part of my life. I honestly don’t even remember a time when it wasn’t something I knew I would do for the rest of my life. I started singing in church choir when I was really young - like three. And honestly it just kind of became my thing. My parents always pushed me to keep performing and were always super supportive. I remember being so scared to sing a solo at church on Christmas Eve, but my Dad kept telling me I’d be great, to breathe through the nerves. Afterwards, I felt so proud of myself for doing it, and I just fell in love with performing.

I started writing my own lyrics when I was eight years old; they were really just little poems about things I observed in the world - love, friendship, history, and sometimes just stories I made up! But it wasn’t until middle school when I learned guitar and started writing music along with the lyrics that it got serious. My family had moved to the Philippines, and as a twelve year old with no friends living in a foreign country, I was constantly in my bedroom writing, playing, and singing. It’s always been my favorite thing to do. But it’s also the way I’ve found to express myself, and that’s super important!

I’ll never forget the first song I wrote with a guitar. I came out to the living room to show my Mom, and she couldn’t believe I’d written it all by myself! From then on, my parents were super involved and supportive of my musical development. They were always driving me to open mics, emailing venues, buying me guitars and equipment. All the things! I have always loved telling stories and connecting with people, which is why I continue to pursue music after all these years.

The last few years, I’ve been studying to get my BA in songwriting and vocal performance over in Liverpool, UK. I’ve taken this time to really dig into the craft of both songwriting and singing, and explore what kind of music I truly want to make. I’ve had the freedom to try out lots of different genres and styles, and I feel like I’ve finally found the pocket where what I’m making feels not only most true to me, but also exciting and fresh. I’m so unbelievably excited about the songs I’ve been working on lately, but first I need your help.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio EP.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded EP with Ryan Gallagher in Boston, MA. Ryan is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Ryan and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life.

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Mall Parking Lot,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Mall Parking Lot" on my own, to create an EP of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Ryan and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the EP. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this EP. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the EP will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

The success of this campaign would be a total game changer for me. The biggest hurdle I’ve faced with my music is getting it up to par with a quality that I can be proud of. Once I can promote a professional project in a meaningful and authentic way, I'll be able to grow my audience and gain exposure to new listeners.
