Hello world! We are Amy and Mary of MA’AM, a band from the mountains of West Virginia.

We shared the stage for the first time in a female performers’ showcase in Lewisburg, WV. We hit it off immediately and decided right then and there to combine forces. We named our duo ‘MA’AM’ (a combination of our initials), and began working together to hone our sound. It took us a minute, but eventually, we realized we have something fresh and simple to offer our listeners. We have been called “an unapologetic kick in the head,” “fringe folk,” and “some of the best folk music around.” 

Our non-apologetic writing style paired with sweet harmonies and Appalachian roots is delightful and poignant. We are extremely excited to have been selected to work with Plaid Dog Recording, and we are poised and ready to record our second album, “Fire Pink.” We invite you to take part in helping us make a new collection of professionally produced studio recordings!

We've got a collection of great songs ready to record -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating our first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for our professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson in Boston, MA. Mike is a Boston-based producer and engineer with 15+ years of experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, we’re digging into our original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

Back in March, we set the process in motion to make this album with Mike and Plaid Dog. We wanted to share a taste of this record with you all, so we made plans to travel to Boston and record our new single, “Tiny House” at Mike’s studio. With one foot out of the door, things took a turn with the health crisis and needless to say, we haven’t made it to Boston yet––but we will, and we know this album will be worth the wait!

In the meantime, with the assistance of some pretty amazing technology, Mike helped us finish a demo of “Tiny House” remotely! We hope you’ll find the content of the song extra meaningful, given that it’s literally about being stuck inside a space that at the very least, feels too small. You can check out the demo below for free!

This demo will give you a good feel for what this album will be like if this campaign reaches its goal. If we’re successful, we’ll be able to get back in the studio with Mike to record the rest of the album, and create a fully produced version of this first single, “Tiny House.” We’re so excited  for this project to come together –– but of course, before we can make that happen, we need your help!

While we’ve been able to fund this initial recording process for "Tiny House" so far, to create an album of songs with full production and professional quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. We’ll start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album, hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements, and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change our lives.

This recording will have a huge impact on our band’s future. MA’AM wants to promote a brand of stellar, femtastic, heart-felt American music. Helping us in this early stage of our professional recording career puts us in a position to appeal on a ‘more legit,’ professional level. We think there is a larger community of people out there who need to hear our music; this project will enable us to compete professionally. We are psyched to let our artistic wings soar under the bright blue sky of a professional producer who can make what we hear fly. 

Since we began, there have been many people (family, friends, fans) who have been there for us and cheering us on and we are so very grateful. We cannot do it alone. We don’t want to do it alone. We are raising the flag to say “Hey, can you give us a leg up?” Thank you, and we love you all.
