Hello world! My name is Lindy, and I'm a singer-songwriter here in New York.

I grew up as the middle child of five kids and it was hard to make my voice heard. I was in competition as a kiddo. I had a lot to say but was rarely heard. Then I picked up the electric guitar and was like OHHHHH now it’s time for people to listen!

I’ve always written music with a strong creative voice because I had to fight to be heard as a kid. Speaking loudly through music is a huge part of who I am as a musician.

I’ve spent years in the industry and my experiences are broad. I’ve had the most experience as a touring lead guitarist, but always in someone else’s band. This is the first time I’m picking up the microphone as the band leader. Welcome to the Lindy Day project.

In 2019 we started a band called Black Ramen. Our music was high energy, exciting rock, we looked like we stepped out of a video game. There was a comic book that went with the project. I LOVED that band. We filmed our first promo video and we were ready to pitch it, but then the pandemic came along.

That project dissolved.

It was really hard to watch that end so suddenly. I lost so much inspiration. I felt like the universe took my most exciting idea and squashed it like a fly. It became really hard to play music

I spent the pandemic pursuing my second love, music education. The education side of things has given me a wider view of the music community. I’m glad I took this two year sidestep. I’m ready to record an EP and go touring again. The time is right.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio EP.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded EP with Mike Davidson in Boston, MA. Mike is a Boston-based producer and engineer with 15+ years of experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Mike and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “New Tattoo,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "New Tattoo" on my own, to create an EP of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Mike and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the EP. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this EP. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the EP will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

I focused on teaching during the pandemic and I kept hearing the same problem. It’s interesting. Female students signed up for lessons and you’d be surprised by how frequently they’d say, “Teach me guitar solos written by women.”

When I’m educating, I choose guitar solos that demonstrate the techniques my student’s working on. A composer's gender is not how I parse information. I also understand it’s important to be represented. I get that. If a student asks to learn solos by women, that’s a legit request, but we’ve immediately cut out 90% of solos with amazing educational value. I don’t have a lot of material to choose from when someone makes this request. And I hear this request more frequently than you realize.

It’s an interesting and complex problem.

Part of this EP is inspired by the need for more female-composed guitar parts.

We are a community, and I want to place the community before a gender. This is inclusive. The two best guitar teachers in my life are both men - I wouldn’t change that experience for the world. Men you have value, don’t stop. At the same time I hope other women listen to this music and say, “Wait. I can do this too.” I want a future where half of guitar solos out in the wild are composed by women. We are a community. The more diversity our community has, the more empowered we all become.
