Hello world! My name is Lily Lothrop and I'm a singer-songwriter here in beautiful Upstate New York.

I’ve been making music and singing my entire life. I am forever grateful to the community that raised me., Growing up in Western Mass, I was exposed to a lot of music, theatre, and art. The community is built of creatives making things happen, and everyone benefits. I started off my journey in community theatre and choirs, which shaped my musical identity, and allowed me to fall in love with many different kinds of music. I started voice lessons at 11, and from then on, I was pretty certain that music was going to be a part of my life forever. I was trained in classical music, but always loved pop music, classic rock, and anything on the radio in the early 2010s. Only after graduation college did I realize how I wanted music to fit into my life. I started writing songs in my apartment and I never looked back. 

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Ryan Gallagher in Boston, MA. Ryan is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Ryan and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life.

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Go Down Swinging,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Go Down Swinging” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Ryan and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

Music is something that is so important to me in many ways. It has been a constant in my life, even when the shape and form has changed. It has been something to lean on when times are hard, something to celebrate with, when times are good. Something to help me process my thoughts and feelings, and something to give me a cathartic outlet. 

I have learned that I value making music with others. The collaborative process pushes me to explore new sounds, new ideas, and new parts of myself. This is a skill I have been honing since my earliest days in Berkshire Children’s Theatre, and choirs at the Berkshire Music School. I would not be who I am today without all the wonderful programs I took part in, and all the educators who believed in me. 

The last few years I have been hidden away, taking voice lessons, guitar lessons, and writing song after song. I discovered a kind of discipline that I never thought was possible. I never expected that writing and playing my own songs would provide me with the motivation I had been lacking. I’m excited about singing and performing in a way I have never been before. For the first time in my life, I feel brave. 

I have many hopes for this project. I hope I have fun. I hope I meet new people. I hope I learn about myself. I hope that this project can expose me to new collaborators, and that I can continue to make music in this way, and I hope that you like it. With your support, we can make this happen.
