Hello world! My name is Lu, and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful city of Clear Lake, MN.

I’ve been performing music my whole life, from second grade piano recitals to local fairs and talent shows. While taking vocal lessons, I found a love for writing music and have kept with it ever since. I spent years experimenting with what my music style is, and finally I found that I just loved the idea of writing down thoughts and feelings on paper and adding music to emphasize an idea or emotion. But more than anything, I love that I can make other people feel what I feel through music. 

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Cairo Marquez-Neto in Boston, MA. Cairo is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Cairo and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing a demo version of one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Butterfly,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund this initial recording process for "Butterfly" on my own, to create an album of songs with full production and studio quality, costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Mike and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture, and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

I haven’t always pushed myself to reach beyond my comfort zones. I have always been shy and awkward, but over the past year, I have learned how to be myself more confidently. Music has helped with this weird journey. I always knew that I had supporters, the biggest being my mom and dad. They have always encouraged me to be myself. My parents have always been honest with me, even when I didn’t want it. With their love and support, I was able to branch out to family members and friends, gaining more support throughout my life. I am grateful for every one of them, as they helped me become more confident in taking this next step.

While I've never made a music project of this caliber before, I know that I have the passion to make it the very best it can be. I know that this is what I want, so I have gained the drive and the motivation to make it work. I've been deepening my musical focus and practicing, practicing, practicing. With your support, I will channel that consistent work and passion into something new and beautiful that we have made together.
