Hello world! My name is Laura Lee, and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful city of Boston, MA.

I realized I wanted to pursue music when I was just 16 years old. I had been practicing my guitar and writing songs in my bedroom, but the night my stepmom took me to see a show hosted by WERS is when everything changed. Deb Talan was headlining at this tiny little venue in Lowell, MA called Capo’s.  Ryan Montbleau was the opener and I remember seeing him on stage, hearing his voice, and watching his unique style of playing the guitar and I thought to myself… that’s it! That’s what I want to do! 

That moment, performance, and night gave me so much purpose and direction as far as who I wanted to be as a musician. I think of it with every step I take in my music career from booking tours and gigs, to promoting, writing songs and even to this very moment of creating my debut studio album. 

Finally a studio album. The moment everyone has been patiently and not so patiently waiting for. It’s overdue and many have been asking for over a decade. The time is finally now.

I recently moved back to Boston and I have been starting over and I thought, what better way than to release a new music and new album.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson in Boston, MA. Mike is a Boston-based producer and engineer with 15+ years of experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Mike and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “It's Definitely You,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "It's Definitely You" on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Mike and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

The success of this campaign would mean the world to me. I've had three really big goals for my music career: one to play Club Passim, which i recently just did. Two is to record a professional studio album that I’m really proud of.  In fact, this is something I’ve wanted to do not just for all of you, but myself as well. As a self-taught musician, I sometimes feel that my music isn’t good enough and completing this album would really challenge my own beliefs about my music and me.  More importantly, reaching this goal will open the doors to my third. (You'll have to stay tuned for the third) So, help me record this album and make my dreams come true!
