Hello world! My name is Kolt Hudson and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful city of Nashville, TN.

I started playing guitar at 14 after I was told I couldn’t play sports due to my heart defect. Very quickly I fell in love with playing and I couldn’t put the guitar down. About a year later I started writing my own music and I haven’t stopped since. It started with my friends and I playing and quickly morphed into us recording in my bedroom and running out to the car to listen to what we had just recorded on “the good speakers”. I started playing around my hometown of Tupelo, MS which gave me the confidence to come to Nashville, TN and play on the streets. Not long after, I was offered a job in Nashville and I moved to make all my dreams come true. It has proven to be a little bit harder and a lot more expensive than I anticipated, but I’m still working to accomplish my dreams. I have now recorded an entire album in a home studio, and I have produced a few of my own singles. This was the first time I have ever recorded at a professional studio and man it lit a fire in me. I can’t wait for you to listen to this single “Bedside” and hopefully more in the future.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson  in Boston, MA. Mike is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Mike  and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Bedside,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Bedside” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts.  and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It’s difficult to put into words how much the success of this campaign would make me feel. I’ve never done anything like this before. I’ve never taken to this limit so much out of my comfort zone and to this height. For the first time in my life, i’m brave enough to take my music to this height and trusting myself.

It’s scary to put myself out there, and take a leap like this. But I think I love that about music in general. It’s such a vulnerable act to reveal who you are in song form. not just around the campfire with your friends so to speak, but actually throwing a light down a dark tunnel, and seeing who’s on the other side to throw it back. Actually taking a song and putting it into the world for others to critique. It takes some guts, really. I’ve learned over the years that the way music connects to people can look like a string to be held onto. Some people can hold the string tight, some can barely be hanging on, and some don’t even have the string in hand. Well, I hope you hold on to this string tight, and I hope the string holds on to you.
