Hello world! My name is Kirt Broesche, and I'm a jazz musician here in the beautiful city of Austin, Texas.

I have bounced from Houston to Los Angeles and back Austin all with the sound of Jazz music in my head. In Austin, my drums are the usual connection I use to bridge a jazz conversation, but in the past several years I have been passionate about writing. Specifically, the past several years have found me at work at a piano and in a music theory classroom: I am ready to fully communicate the jazz music I hear in my head. 

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Bryan Fennelly in Boston, MA. Bryan is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Bryan and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Curiosity,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Curiosity" on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Bryan and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

Jazz music is what has saved my life. In listening to one melody, we listen to all else. In hearing one note, we might hear the voices upon which we stand to make such a note. For me, jazz is not a single song or album, or even artist: it is everything all at once. 

I stand upon the shoulders of the most amazing teachers, who have spent their time with me in order to make me better. My teachers, like Sebastian Whittaker, have encouraged me to take their lessons with me throughout my career and my life, always growing. Music is timeless, and the lessons that can be retrieved are also timeless: many of my teachers are deceased, but their messages live on in jazz.

This project is important to me because I want to demonstrate that the spirit of jazz is truly timeless. This music can live in anyone just by tapping their foot to it: I want to show how the discovery of jazz in the individual binds us to anyone who has had the inkling to create. For me, I find that in jazz. 

Everyone who has supported me this far have already given me so much. It could be a teacher like Joey Colarusso who taught me about listening, or it could be my mom who taught me about patience. With a project such as this in the bag, it is only the beginning of what I consider my coming-of-being into a jazz musician. I want to get better in all aspects, and I want to use this opportunity to grow a fanbase that is also connected to jazz music. Everyone who supports this campaign now is giving me the tools to take everything I’ve learned and make it a reality. I am eternally grateful to all such supporters.
