Hello world! My name is Kingsley Avery and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful city of New York.

I’ve been writing songs and singing in quiet corners since highschool, and even prior my musical interest was initiated by my love for playing drums in an all girl rock band in primary school. No matter how crazy my academia and sports schedule got I always found time for poetics and attempting my favorite Paramore songs on the guitar.

Over the years songwriting has been my secret savior, where I spill my guts to the air and relish in the more somber emotions. In life’s climb through deep feelings, change, love, and loss, I found meaning and solace through the creation of music. While my growth in technical musical understanding and vocal prowess has been a slow and private journey it is in the present that I wish to launch that passion in a more powerful public setting.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Carter Sanders  in Boston, MA. Carter is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together,  Carter and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Waste On Wishing,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Waste On Wishing” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Carter Sanders and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

I’ve come to learn an unmistakable and harsh truth that the ability to ‘play’ and create is a great privilege. It means I’m lucky enough to have time and financial influence outside of basic survival to be my most authentic self. Making sense of the word through poetry and music is something that feels so natural to me.

The opportunity to create music and collaborate with high caliber musicians to see my concepts and inner workings come to life truly invigorates me.

This project is a part of my plan to initiate new opportunity’s and growth in songwriting so that I can do as much of it as possible before I kick the bucket. 

A life mission of mine is to be a reminder that we should not be afraid of the dark, it is to be embraced and used so that by contrast our worlds can be brighter than ever before. There is hope and strength at the other side of life’s biggest battles, and I love the power music has to better understand them.

This project gives me an opportunity to share my heart at a larger scale, harness my unique sound, as well as having the potential to be brought to the stage.
