Hello world! My name is Kim O’Hehir, and I'm a singer-songwriter from Galway, Ireland, currently living in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Music has been a lifelong passion for me. As a kid it was my solace from my own anxiety’s and struggles. I was able to release uncomfortable feelings and emotions at the piano writing and singing songs, especially through my teenage years.

I didn’t know how to pursue music professionally after secondary school, so I followed a more traditional route by studying it in college in NUI Galway. Living in Galway was hugely inspiring. Attending open mic nights in the Roisin Dúbh and watching the buskers on shop street inspired me to find a way to play publicly myself. In 2020 I spent a whole semester writing an album of music that I performed as my end of year exam, I experienced my first heartbreak and I began busking with my keyboard on shop street in Galway. This was a transformative time for me. The response from the music community and the pedestrians of Galway was overwhelming. They welcomed me with open arms and were hugely encouraging. Venues of Galway such as Garavans, Hyde Bar, Oscars Seafood bistro invited me into their establishments to perform regularly and my dream of becoming a full time musician came to fruition. I began playing in bands and made lifelong connections with other musicians.

I was offered an opportunity in the states to do a music internship in a studio in Los Angeles after I graduated, and after a lot of consideration I decided to take a chance and emigrate to California. The opportunity was not as I expected and I’ve had to make other plans on my journey to release my first EP. I had decided to return to Ireland, when I came across the rising star competition Plaid Dog was running on facebook and entered on a whim. The studio got back to me and offered me a chance to come record my debut album in the studio in Boston, Massachusetts, and I took that as my opportunity to get recording. I canceled my flight home to Ireland and decided to take another risk. By helping me run a crowdfunding campaign, my friends and family have a chance to get involved with my music and support me on this album if they want to!

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Carter Sanders in Boston, MA. Carter is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Carter and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life.

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Win The Crowd Over’’ and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Win The Crowd Over’’ on my own, but to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Carter and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

I’ve been writing songs my entire life and I’ve been sitting on an album of work for a few years now. Getting into the studio and finishing my album is the goal and dream I’ve been working towards for so long. It would allow me to share my original music with friends, family and the public. I have so much written I want to share with the world and I’m getting closer and closer to this goal. My songs are about heartbreak, navigating life from teenage years into adulthood. They explore the worst and best of the human experience. I’ve written songs about depression, friendships, heartache, new love and everything in between. I use plain speaking language in my lyrics and my hope is that others may find solace in my songs. I want people to feel seen and not alone through my music. I am honest and vulnerable in my lyric writing in an effort to relate to others and I want to let people know that they are not alone in their experiences. Getting this album recorded would mean everything to me because of this.
