Hello world! My name is John Walsh and I'm a musician from Minnesota.

My name is John Walsh. Since being born in Minnasota in 1996, my parents knew I had a love for music. It was with me through every childhood experience, every college heartbreak, and throughout my adult life.  When I was in Highschool, I bought my own drumset to teach myself how to play to the rock songs I loved. In college I convinced my roomates to create the only rock group on campus, and introduced students to a new genere of music. Since gradutating, I’ve spent my time playing at different bars and events. I learned how to DJ and am looking forward to performing with a full band at locations throughout the United States, hopefully at a venue near you.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Ryan Gallagher in Boston, MA. Ryan is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Ryan and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “That One Girl,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "That One Girl” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Ryan and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

Music has always been a gift to me and I have always enjoyed listening to the music of others and its something I have taken the great challenge and pleasure of developing and improving upon myself.  Since learning piano, guitar, drums, bass guitar, singing and songwriting, I have been able to share this gift in a variety of ways including playing these instruments for others and teaching kids and adults to play as well.  

While I lost some momentum of my gigging career during the pandemic, things have been on the up and up since the beginning of this year and I want to keep that momentum going.  My hope and goal for this project is to be able to make high quality songs that allow me to discover awesome musicians to form a band and get a record deal or collaborative agreement with a studio so I don’t have to worry about the production and travel costs every time I make an album.  

This would then allow me to create higher quality music and release it more frequently for your listening pleasure and it would also allow me to play more shows, start local tours, and eventually do national or global tours at a venue near you.  The possibilities are truly endless but this is just the tip of the iceberg of what your contribution could do for people like you, for me, and for the world.  It would mean the world to me if you shared my story with your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers and considered giving even a small contribution to the project as well.  I’m really excited about it and I thank you in advance.
