Hello world! My name is Jillian Matundan, and I'm a singer-songwriter here in beautiful Northern Virginia.

I’ve been making music my whole life. I was a concert violinist from the age of 3, in cover bands in high school, played charity events, gigged at local bars, busked on the streets of New York City, and had jam sessions with friends from California to Maine and even on a cruise ship. After over a decade of letting my own music sit on a shelf, I’ve rediscovered my original music and have been pouring my heart and soul into songwriting, into stories, into harmony - and the only thing left is to share the sounds in my head and my heart with all of you.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Bryan Fennelly in Boston, MA. Bryan is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Bryan and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

I’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing a demo of one song remotely, with the assistance of some pretty amazing technology. This first song is called “Alright Tonight,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund this initial recording process for "Alright Tonight" on my own, to create an album of songs with full production and professional quality, costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Bryan and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

I have dreamt for a very long time about releasing a full album. Even though I went away from music for a while, I never fully gave up on the hope that I could return someday. Now that I have, I realize I need it more than I knew. I’ve been so fortunate to have found an incredible and amazing community of people who have been so helpful in my return to my own music, which in many ways was like finding my own voice. I took a tentative step towards sharing my music when I nervously went to my first open mic in 2019 and played solo for the first time in nearly 20 years. I took another step when I released my debut EP in 2020, mid-COVID pandemic. I was so floored at the response and the welcome, and now I’m feeling brave enough to chase the dream of releasing a full album.

The act of creation is beautiful, and I’m so elated to have rediscovered it. I’ve had the opportunity to create with some beautiful souls and I want to keep the communication and conversation going. Most importantly, I want to share it with all of you so that we can create something unique together.
