Hello world! My name is Jamel The Artist and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful city of Miami, Florida.

I have been performing musically since middle school but started making music as a singer-songwriter in 2019 when I was able to save money to afford a studio session. Balancing work, home life, social life and trying to pursue my dream proved to be difficult. I used my recording sessions as a way to cope with the problems that were stressing me at the time and used it to emotionally heal. I’ve been performing since then in bars and venues around Miami, Florida. After receiving bad health news instead of feeling discouraged, I allowed myself one day to be sad and began to have a new perspective on life. I was able to connect with an independent label who flew me out to California. I started recording and performing with the Intentions to put my solo musical career on the forefront. I thought living a life of success meant I had to exhaust all efforts to be established.

Over the last two years I started writing again, focusing on my health journey and even released a few singles. I started creating music surrounding my personal experiences, healing, facing/processing trauma, and discovering happiness and love. How life is meant to be enjoyed, no matter how hard it can get. I started pouring all of my new found love for music again into new creative endeavors which led me to contact Plaid Dog to work on my latest solo album. I want to share my journey up until now with all of you. Incorporating a new sound as well as writing the folk style I started with all those years ago.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my latest, professionally produced studio EP.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded EP with Carter Saunders in Boston, MA. Carter is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Carter and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life.

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Here For You,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Here For You” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Carter and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

The project will change my life in the sense of creative expression. I come from a large musical background and I feel like this project is tapping into new territory. I get to get in contact with new creators and utilize live instrumentation which I’ve never done before. Seeing the process and seeing others in their element allows me to hone my skills. The overall process of this project transcends time and culture differences and it really excites me.
