Hello world! We are In The Nick of Time, a band here in the beautiful city of Northampton, MA.

In The Nick of Time has been making award-winning music for kids and families for over 20 years. Growing organically out of Nick’s work in early childhood education, In The Nick of Time really took off in 2007, when we were honored by the Emmy Academy to receive the Mr. Rogers Memorial scholarship. Becoming parents slowed production down a bit, but also provided new inspiration.

With a new group and a new sound, we’re chomping at the bit to share some new music. In order for this music to exist outside of our heads and live up to its potential, we need your help!

We've got a collection of great songs ready to record -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating our first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for our professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson in Boston, MA. Mike is a Boston-based producer and engineer with 15+ years of experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, we’re digging into our original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing a demo of one song remotely, which is ready for you to preview right here on this page. This first song is called “Easy Street,” and you can check it out below!

While we were able to fund the first phase of the recording process for "Easy Street" on our own, to create an album of songs with full production and professional quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of the project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. We’ll start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album, hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements, and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change our lives.

We have the greatest fans and supporters, and that is why we are so excited to be launching this project. In The Nick of Time is a labor of love that brings joy to so many. We’ve had to make sacrifices over the years to keep the music going while working day jobs. Becoming parents has only made this more of a challenge. It’s been a while since we’ve released new music, and now we have the opportunity to make this our greatest album yet! Working with the team at Plaid Dog means that we can capture the energy of our live performances in the studio and share the new songs that have been percolating for a few years.

A well-recorded studio album with our whole band would help to open a lot of doors for our group (booking bigger shows, reaching wider audiences, and perhaps even making the transition to television). The sky's the limit with this crew of talented musicians. Partnering with Plaid Dog means we can bring the energy and fun of our live shows to our fans around the globe.
