Hello! My name is Forest Romm and I'm a songwriter and banjo player here in Boston, MA.

I’ve been writing songs and playing music for years. I’m a folk artist who is strongly influenced by American Roots music. My work incorporates the timeless themes and feelings of the genre into contemporary storytelling. I’m currently a student at Berklee College of Music studying songwriting and clawhammer banjo, and after a lot of hard work, I’m finally ready to share my songs with the world. 

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Bryan Fennelly in Boston, MA. Bryan is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Bryan and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Passing By,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for “Passing By” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Bryan and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

I’ve spent a really long time only writing songs for myself, simply because I had an overwhelming feeling that needed to be expressed. Over the last few years, that compulsion to write has evolved into a disciplined craft. My mentors at Berklee have shown me that sitting down to write every day and pushing myself to my limits can yield more beautifully creative results than I’d previously imagined. The songs I plan to include in this project are the result of patience and hard work, and I’m proud to have the opportunity to share them.

It’s my hope that this project will help me further down the path of dedicating my life to writing songs and making music. I believe this could be a turning point that would allow me to become more deeply involved in the Boston music community and help me find new people to collaborate with. 

I’ve never made a music project of this caliber before, but the love and work I’ve put into these new songs makes it even more important to me to try and do them justice. With your support, I will take that dedication into the studio and collaborate with Plaid Dog Recording to make something beautiful, made possibly only because of all of you.
