Hello world! My name is Faith and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful city of Puyallup, Washington.

I was born and raised in Concord, North Carolina and am new here to Washington by way of Florida and South Carolina. Through every place I’ve lived, music has been a huge part of my life- from making up my own little songs as a kid to children’s choir and worship teams at church as a teen, jam sessions with my dad at home, more recently sitting in on several different festivals, and playing tunes with friends I’ve met along the way. After pouring my experiences and everything I’ve learned into songwriting, stories, and harmony, the only thing left is to share the sounds in my head and my heart with all of you.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Carter Sanders in Boston, MA. Carter is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Carter and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Caroline,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Caroline” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Carter and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

I once heard Wynonna Judd speak of music as a healer and I fully resonate with that. Music allows us to express joy, deal with trauma, celebrate love, process grief, and work through many other feelings and experiences that connect us all in fundamentally human ways. I am, for the first time in my life, feeling brave enough to offer my music up to my community as part of that bigger picture.

Music is also a cornerstone of family for me. My dad taught me how to play guitar as a kid after being taught by his dad when he was young. I learned about harmony from my mom who sang in the church choir and who always has a song on her heart.  Growing up, my parents encouraged me to practice often and play with other people when given the chance. This has led to music being a community builder for me. Over the years I have been privileged to play with other incredible musicians on different stages, in living rooms, around bonfires and anywhere else there was a song to be sung. Music is about community and connection, and I've shared musical experiences with so many people in my life.  One of my hopes is that this project helps me find new collaborators in my networks to make more music together.

While I've never made a music project of this caliber before, I have worked in fields that require heart and grit alike. Most recently, I worked as a Child Forensic Interview Specialist which exposed me to some of the worst elements of humanity but instilled in me the drive to always advocate and work for the greater good in my community alongside my team, no matter where I’m at or who I’m with. Throughout this experience, I’ve been able to process what I’ve seen and how I’ve felt by writing and expanding my musical focus. Although the move to Washington has taken me out of that role for the time being, the art I have created is something I am proud of and in between packing and unpacking boxes, I have been practicing, practicing, practicing. 

While so much has recently changed in my life, I have never felt more myself and more at home. With your support, I will channel these feelings and experiences into something new and beautiful that we have made together.
