Story

THE PROJECT

Hello world! My name is Ereena Akirtava, and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful city of Boston, MA.

I recently moved here from Troy, NY and have been searching for a way to pursue my music on a more professional level. Music has always been a huge part of my life and whenever I get the chance, I’m either at the piano writing a little tune or strumming at the ukulele trying to put whatever I’ve been feeling that day into words. I’ve been getting more and more into songwriting over the past few years, using it as my daily little escape, but never knew exactly how to take that next step with producing my songs. However, coming across the opportunity to work with this studio, I knew that despite how scary it would be haha, it was my chance to finally see my music turn into REAL SONGS that can be shared with you :)

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

WHAT YOU'RE SUPPORTING

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson in Boston, MA. Mike is a Boston-based producer and engineer with 15+ years of experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Mike and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life.

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “look at me go” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for “look at me go” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Mike and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

THE IMPACT

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

As cliche as it sounds, music has definitely become my form of “therapy” over the years haha. Sitting down at a piano and coming up with new melodies or practicing cover songs, it all reflects and works with whatever I am feeling that day. It allows me to zone out, process my thoughts and ground myself.

It definitely took me a while to get to the point of feeling comfortable enough to pursue such a big and open project ((to be honest it is still very difficult hahah)). I used to keep the music side of my life very VERY private, but over the years I’ve had a lot of people in my life help me grow in that aspect. What started out as singing alone in my living room, turned into working with an amazing vocalist and musician in highschool, Rick. He was one of the first people (outside of my family haha) that I ever sang in front of and thanks to him I really started to develop my sound. This turned into opening up more about my passion for music with my friends which actually led a few of us to create a mini band and perform in our high school talent show. NOW THAT is something I never thought I could do haha and am so thankful for my friends helping me grow that confidence. Moving to college, I was lucky enough to have met a whole new group of people that have endlessly supported and pushed me over the years to get out of my comfort zone. This built into actively seeking opportunities to perform at open mic nights (yes, ACTIVELY CHOOSING to play in front of real people haha). Fast forwarding to today, I definitely would not have had the courage to pursue something so openly if it wasn't for my parents putting up with never having a quiet house, my sister for always talking sense into me, my friends for their constant support, and everyone I’ve ever worked with in a musical capacity for fueling the excitement of collaboration. At the end of the day, music is about connecting with people and I have gotten to know so many amazing people throughout my musical journey.
