Overview

Hello world! My name is Elana Rozenfeld, and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful city of Boston, Massachusetts.

This is my first time writing my own songs from the heart.  As a synagogue cantor, I've always focused my music on the congregation and on prayer, but the songs I've written for this album are a different kind of prayer. They reach deep into my most personal and painful experiences and give them voice, not to be stigmatized or hidden.  This album is raw and intimate and I'll be honest.  I'm terrified to share it with the world.  But I believe deeply that we need to honor all parts of ourselves, and want to help people do this through my music.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting! This campaign is the final step toward creating my new, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson, a Boston-based producer and engineer with 15+ years of experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Mike and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

I’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Narrow Bridge” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Narrow Bridge" on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Mike and I will start crafting the arrangements for each of the songs that will go on the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music. It’s where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every musician.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture, and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

I have loved music and performance for as long as I could remember, but I never believed in myself enough to really pursue it. I was too afraid to depart from the dream I was taught to have. I was afraid of failing, afraid it would be too hard, who am I after all, I should want what normal people want, etc... I had so many beliefs and fears that kept me from pursuing my authentic desire to express myself.  But then, at 36 years old, with a young family, I thought, “ It’s now or never.  I need to do what is authentic to me, and I can’t live with regrets.”  So I embarked on a music career, combining the lessons I’ve learned with the music I create and express.  

To prepare for this project, I've been writing songs: honestly expressing what's inside me with the hope that it will help someone else.  With your support, I will channel that consistent work and experience into something new and beautiful that we have made together.
