Through this crowdfunding campaign, Earl on Earth is raising funds to record their next professionally produced EP with Mike Davidson. Mike is a Boston-based producer and engineer with 15+ years of experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Earl on Earth is so excited to continue work with Mike in the studio to bring their next set of original songs to life.

Through the support of some early contributors, we've been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. You can check out “Mount Lemmon” below!

While early contributions funded the record process for "Mount Lemmon,” the costs of recording and producing an EP with songs of this quality add up quickly. Your contribution will help cover the following costs of this project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Mike and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the EP.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this EP.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

Hello! Thanks for being here. I'm Nate. I'm a singer-songwriter who performs under the artist name Earl on Earth; I lead an indie rock band of the same name. Over the past few years we've developed our sound and performed around the northeast (Portland, ME; Cambridge, MA; Hartford, CT; New York, NY) - but we're excited to push ourselves to expand our audience by further developing and promoting our catalog of recordings and through live performance. Read on for more background on our story:

In the summer of 2018, after graduating from college and before moving to Boston to start my consulting career, I was traveling in Europe with a few high school friends. Walking around in Berlin, thinking about the uncertainty and openness of the musical path ahead of me, I decided I’d begin performing under the artist name Earl on Earth.* 

Upon moving to Boston I started performing solo wherever I could, in small bars like The Bebop on Boylston Street or busking the Boston Public Garden. Soon enough I met Matt, Steve, and James and began playing shows as a band. The band grew together and developed their sound over the next year through a series of shows at the Middle East Club in Cambridge and late-night rehearsals at a warehouse rehearsal space in Framingham.

Since then, Earl on Earth has continued to perform at any opportunity on the east coast, from Portland to New York City, from venues to living rooms and apartment rooftops. They have recorded two EPs, Where I’m Gonna Find Myself (2020) and New City, New Beginnings (2022). 

With many experiences and lessons learned behind them, Earl on Earth is more motivated than ever to drive this musical journey forward. They plan to tour the northeast and beyond this summer, to promote existing and new material, and their vision as an artist/band. This recording studio project with producer Mike Davidson and Plaid Dog Recording is an unbelievable opportunity for Nate and the group to take their next big step. The journey so far has been incredible and we’ve come a long way, but I know that the journey is still really just beginning. I couldn’t be more excited about the path ahead and experiences to come. *Earl is my middle name. During one stroll in Berlin - thinking about my identity, my past and my future - I decided to try to match things I liked and valued to the letters of my middle name, and that’s how I came up with Exploration, Art, Relationships, and Laughter/love (EARL). The idea of adding the “on Earth” part stems from my belief that the world and its people would benefit from more of each of these things. I told myself that as an artist, with whatever platform I’d have, I would do my part to try to enable, inspire, and showcase exploration, art, relationships, and laughter/love in various forms in various ways. At this point, I view Earl on Earth as a multifaceted platform for me to document and share experiences of my own and others through songs, photos, videos, and writing.

Earl on Earth has new material ready for recording and the studio team and musicians are waiting - this Plaid Dog crowdfunding campaign is the final step toward creating our next professionally produced studio EP.
