Hello peeps! My name is DEJHA, and I'm a musician and songwriter here in the beautiful city of New York.

I’ve been making music and performing my whole life. As the daughter of two professional Jazz artists, I was exposed to music and performance from the word “go.” I cut my teeth in the Seattle music scene, doing everything from singing back ups in a Ska band to fronting an all girl Punk Rock outfit while also writing and producing my own material. I moved back to my hometown (NYC), where I released my first album as a solo artist. I also took on exciting projects like collaborating with Mike Squires on The Union Gospel project. For the past two years, I've continued to write songs and prepare for this next project.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating 223 Water St.

This campaign is raising funds to record 223 Water Street with Bryan Fennelly in Boston, MA. Bryan is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Bryan and I are working with my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to musicians to help bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, called “Storyteller,” and you can check it out below!

I had support from family and a few close friends to fund the recording for "Storyteller,” but costs for recording at this quality add up quickly. This Plaid Dog campaign gives you and I a unique opportunity to make great art together. Your contribution will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: Bryan and I will craft the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and work through ideas for the recording process.

2. Recording: This is where the magic happens! Your contribution to the campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have the time to capture great performances.

3. Mixing & Mastering: As a final step, Bryan will mix and master the album, creating a high quality listening experience that is cohesive and consistent from start to finish.

This project means so much to me. 

I have recognized my desire to dig deeper, to step out in front, and to allow my true musical voice and individual style to take center stage. 223 Water Street marks the culmination of my growth, experience and personal vision. These things together are allowing me to realize my power as a singer, songwriter and storyteller. 

Over the last year, I’ve been able to put a lot of energy and work into my musical life. I’ve organized and digitally distributed almost all of my existing material, and I’ve reacquainted myself with playing and writing music on the piano. Completing a long-time goal, I built a home studio, which will make my collaboration with Plaid Dog even more smooth and allow me to continually release content in the future.

Perhaps my biggest accomplishment is establishing my independent record label and production company, Mad Meow Music. I’ve partnered with Art Director Marina Fish to provide the business structure to propel my music career forward on a professional level.

Producing this album with Bryan and releasing it digitally will showcase my new approach to songwriting and my art in general. It will also help to establish my moniker (DEJHA) as a solo artist and will allow me the means to establish sustainable revenue practices. The goal is to make my living doing what I love to do: make music and create art.
