Overview

Hello world! My name is Carson Ruby Kimmerly, but most people know me professionally as KIMMERLY. I'm a singer-songwriter based here in the beautiful sunny Southwest Florida.

Growing up, I was drawn to a number of creative outlets like drawing, painting, crafting, filmmaking, fashion design, and of course, music. My interest in music grew a lot when I started on the classical violin in sixth grade and discovered that I was quite good at it.

I set my heart on becoming a recording artist at some point when I was in high school. I always knew I would be an artist of some form. There was a really pivotal time in my life when I was trying to figure out where to go, as my time in high school would be over soon. I toyed around with the idea of a few colleges and things like that, but I knew that a ‘traditional’ path wasn’t meant for me. I made up my mind that I wasn’t going to be forced into something that wasn’t going to leave me unsatisfied for the rest of my life.

Around that time, my tastes in music really expanded. I started listening to a lot more alternative and avant garde music and keeping up with the artists themselves. It opened my eyes to the fact that the music industry combined everything I ever loved - of course music, but also presenting yourself through your look, and having the perfect visuals to go with every sound. It inspired me to try my hand at producing some of my own songs using GarageBand and other apps like that. Once I started, I fell in love! Making music and building a little world around each song I wrote became the focus of my life. Every time I ever stepped away from it for a while, I was always led back to music. I discovered that my music is the path that leads me to fulfillment in my life on this earth.

Since then, I have been able to accomplish a lot for myself, including being submitted by members of the Academy into the voting process for the GRAMMY Awards this year. But, there is only so much that I can do alone, and I know it’s time for me to go even further and take every opportunity that comes my way.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my upcoming ever, professionally produced studio EP.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded EP with Carter Sanders in Boston, MA. Carter is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Carter and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life.

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “The Sculptor” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "The Sculptor" on my own, to create an EP of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Carter and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the EP. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this EP. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the EP will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

If my campaign is a success, it will give me the materials I need to move onto the next stage in my music career. I’m planning to send the professional songs I record with Carter to a number of record labels as my demo, with the hope of signing a deal that will elevate me as an artist and help my music reach a bigger audience than ever before!
