Hello World! My name is Brett Walberg and I am a jazz saxophonist based out of Boston, MA!

From the beginning, I have dreamed in Hi-Fi. I fell in love with the saxophone at an early age because of my Godparents who often played swing era records around the house and were avid watchers of Lawrence Welk reruns on Saturday. From big band to eventually being introduced to Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, I found my rabbit hole; a focus to spend the rest of my life chasing the sounds and music that inspired me to be the person I am today. It has been over a 20 year love affair between me and the saxophone and each year my connection and appreciation for music deepens as I search for authenticity and honesty in my playing and composing.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Ryan Gallagher  in Boston, MA. Ryan is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together,  and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life.

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Colors are Quiet,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Colors are Quiet” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts.  and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

I’ve made a lot records. I’ve chased inspiration, reference and emulation for many of them. This campaign is to support a very new direction in my career - as full of a representation of whole I am as a human, not just a saxophonist. With your support, I will be able to actualize a vulnerable dream I’ve held for years with two guiding questions: What do I truly sound like? What if the colors in my life could speak? This project is an exploration of both my internal life and the larger cacophony of silent inspirations. “Colors are Quiet” is a direct look into my growth as a person, husband, musician and creative. Welcome into the kaleidoscope, it might get a bit weird.

Success for this record would mean being able to spend the time, care and space to create with inspiration and vulnerability. My hope is that once this record is fully supported, I will be able to bring this music to a much larger audience and if I am lucky, play well enough that it inspires another person to commit fully to their dream and make it a reality. This record is my attempt at a waking dream - a reality that cannot exist without your help.
