Hello world! My name is Becca Lipshultz, and I'm a singer-songwriter here in the beautiful city of Sterling, Virginia.

Music has always been a huge part of my life, whether that was learning to harmonize to the Indigo Girls with my mom or listening to Run DMC with my dad, its always been there, in so many different styles and sounds. Because of that, It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what my own “sound” is because I’ve been inspired and influenced by so many different artists and bands. I (mostly) fit into the Indie-folk-singer-songwriter ish vibe, but that doesn’t stop me from branching into different sounds and instrumentations that don’t exactly fit the mold. My most recent musical challenge has been learning to play the accordion, so don’t be surprised if you hear something you can’t quite place on some of these tracks :)

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Bryan Brundige in Boston, MA. Bryan is a Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Bryan and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Seven,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Seven" on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Bryan and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

These songs mean so much to me, and many of them were written about or during really dark times in my life. I’ve created something I’m truly proud of despite the circumstances I wrote it under, and despite feeling like the world was falling down around me. As a person struggling with Bipolar disorder, I think it’s important to talk about the issues that I’m writing about and by putting this music out, I have the platform to speak on what I’ve been through and hopefully relate to others like me. While I was writing this album, not only was I struggling with my mental health, but I was also coming to terms with my sexuality and my whole identity came into question. So really, this project really dives into some very personal and intimate subjects that I finally feel ready to share.

Having this music out will not only help my music career, but it will also help me say the things that I’ve struggled to admit and talk about otherwise. I know that there are people out there who are feeling the way that I felt and I want to show them that they aren’t alone and they aren’t broken or unworthy. Knowing that someone could hear a song and feel seen is worth all of what I went through and I hope that I can do that for someone somewhere.
