Hello! My name is Audrey Rose and I'm an indie artist here in the beautiful city of Northampton, MA.

Growing up I would move through the world with this pent-up energy I couldn’t name or explain, like there was something within me fighting to get out that even words couldn’t quite capture.

It wasn’t until I picked up an instrument that that energy became lucid. I’d use my brother’s guitar when no one was home, or teach myself my favorite songs on the baby grand — I’d become obsessed with different instruments and all the edges of emotions they could evoke.

I hardly remember the struggle, the pain of my fingers on guitar strings before the calluses grew, because it felt like such a relief.

As I got older and my experiences within this world deepened, music was where I could explore and emote in the strange and otherworldly way that I felt I had to mask to the rest of the world.

I wrote, produced and recorded my first EP, ‘Tame’, entirely alone in my room, getting creative with what instruments I could play and what soundscapes I had access to.

But with time my songs became louder and more complex, and the music I heard in my head became less and less accessible for me to capture all on my own; and I felt too strongly connected to these songs to let it go.

I had to accept that I needed help and resources if I wanted to keep the integrity of the art I was creating.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson in Boston, MA. Mike is a seasoned Boston-based producer and engineer with experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Mike and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life. 

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Whippoorwill ,” and you can find it below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Whippoorwill ” on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Mike and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

The success of this campaign would allow me to gain the confidence to take my music outside of my bedroom, embrace its legitimacy in my life. I had reached out to a few different options, seeking the opportunity to allow these songs to be all I knew they could be, to bring these ideas and concepts to life and see where the project could take me.

Ultimately I decided I wanted to explore the music industry without the traditional record-label approach, having heard too many horror stories. It’s crucial to me to own my own rights as the artist, to support and collaborate with local musicians and to be working closely with those investing in my music.

Working with professional session musicians and producers and having the result within my discography would greatly influence my confidence in my identification as an artist, especially as a self-taught musician. This project brings me one step closer to creating my music in a way that protects and empowers me as the solo artist (and, in turn, I hope will empower my listeners).
