Hello world! My name is Alison Price, and I'm a singer-songwriter born in California and made a home in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

When I was a child, I felt drawn to performing (dance, theatre, and music) even though no one in my family was involved in the performing arts. I began playing the flute at the age of 9, and dedicated my life to music all throughout high school - attending masterclasses, performing as principal flutist in two youth orchestras, and devoting 6-8 hours per day to practice.

I attended The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City on a small scholarship, which was a big adventure. I met some extremely talented musicians who became lifelong friends, and had the opportunity to perform at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Lincoln Center with the Brazilian Jazz Ensemble. At the same time, I was discouraged by the culture of competition and scarcity. One of the prominent members of the faculty recommended that my scholarship be revoked because, in his words I “was only admitted because I was a woman and played the flute - a minority instrument”. I felt so alone, and deeply saddened by this negativity, and chose to finish my degree in a completely unrelated field.

For years, I gave up on music. But - music didn’t give up on me. I began having dreams of a baritone ukulele in my mid-20s, an instrument I had never even heard. I tracked one down, and started learning cover songs. Then, I started writing my own songs. The first song I ever wrote came out of me like a rush of wind, and I was very surprised. That was only the beginning, and now writing songs is one of my favorite things to do with my time.

The material is ready, and the musicians are waiting -- this Plaid Dog campaign is the final step toward creating my first ever, professionally produced studio album.

This campaign is raising funds for my professionally recorded album with Mike Davidson in Boston, MA. Mike is a Boston-based producer and engineer with 15+ years of experience working with both established and up-and-coming musicians. Together, Mike and I are digging into my original material, writing arrangements, and reaching out to local musicians to bring the songs to life.

We’ve been able to cover the costs of recording and producing one song, which is ready for you to check out right here on this page. This first song is called “Master Diver,” and you can check it out below!

While I’ve been able to fund the recording process for "Master Diver" on my own, to create an album of songs of this quality, studio costs add up quickly. With that said, this campaign can give us a unique opportunity to collaborate and make great art together. Your donation will cover the following costs of my project:

1. Pre-Production: This is where everything starts. Mike and I will start crafting the arrangements for each song slated for the album. We’ll hold rehearsals to fine-tune the songs and arrangements and talk through new and exciting ideas for how to approach the recording process.

2. Recording: This is when we enter the studio and start capturing the music and where the songs become what you'll hear on this album. This campaign will play a huge role in making sure we have enough time to capture great performances for every member of the band.

3. Mixing & Mastering: Each track will get mixed to create the right balance between instruments, texture and color that make up a track. As a final step, the album will be mastered from beginning to end so that the listening experience is cohesive and carefully choreographed from start to finish.

It's hard to express how much this project would change my life.

The success of this campaign would mean so much to me as an artist - more than I can adequately express in words. The opportunity to share my music, my storytelling, my experiences and perspectives in a manner that will nourish and support the emotional awakening of the collective is what drives me, and this studio album would make that possible. A step like this, in the direction of creating opportunities on bigger stages for me to perform and share my music, would make me feel deeply fulfilled in life (in ways I have only dreamed of thus far). In addition, as a painter, the opportunity to share my paintings through the album art and promotions for this campaign will also build awareness of that aspect of my work, and create opportunities to share more of my vision in that way as well.
